The following guiding principles serve as defining truths, as we go about serving Christ, under the direction of the Holy Spirit:
- We believe that biblical teaching transforms individual lives and the life of the church. We teach for transformation not information. (Romans 12:6a; II Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:23-25)
- We believe lost people are important to God and should be important to the church. Our decisions are based on what is best to reach lost people. (Luke 5:20-32; Luke 15; Matthew 18:14)
- We believe the Church should constantly strive for relevance to our community and our world, as we remain faithful to God’s Word. We will continually evaluate our methods without altering the message. (I Corinthians 9:19-23)
- We believe that as followers of Christ seeking God’s will, there is a need for continual personal growth. (Ephesians 4:25-26; Hebrews 12:1; Philippians 1:6)
- We believe the Church should operate as a unified community of servants using their spiritual gifts in ministry. Our church life should encourage an attitude of service. (I Corinthians 12, 14; Romans 12; Ephesians 4)
- We believe a Christ-like love should permeate every aspect of church life. This love should be the driving force behind all relationships and ministries. (I Corinthians 13; Nehemiah 3; John 13:34-35)
- We believe that life-change happens best in small groups. Everyone is encouraged to join a small group. (Luke 6:12-13; Acts 2:44-47)
- We believe that striving for excellence honors God and inspires people. (Colossians 3:17; Malachi 1:6-14; Proverbs 27:17)
- We believe those with leadership gifts should lead the Church. Leaders should be empowered, have a servant attitude, and have a purpose. (Nehemiah 1-2; Romans 12:6a; Acts 6:2-5)
- We believe full devotion to Christ and His cause should be the norm for every believer. Full devotion includes stewardship, servanthood, and pursuit of kingdom goals. (Philippians 2:1-11; II Corinthians 8:7)
