This Week at FBC (November 08- November 14, 2009)
First Five
Thanksgiving Gatherings
Sunday, November 22nd, your class is encouraged to have a "Thanksgiving Gathering." We are asking each adult small group to get together for a time of fellowship. Our evening worship service has been cancelled on this date so that you all can gather together to fellowship within your small group.
Preschool Teachers Needed
David and Goliath, Daniel and the Lions Den, and Noah and the Ark…These are just a few of the stories that are taught to our children on Sunday mornings. The Preschool Department is in immediate need of teachers to share the love of Jesus with the youngest in our church. Positions that need to be filled in our Preschool Department are: A Hour - Babies (6 weeks thru 4 months) and 2 Year Old Class; B Hour - Babies (6 weeks thru 4 months), Walkers, Toddlers, and Kindergarten. Please prayerfully consider your place of service within our Preschool Department. If interested, contact the Preschool/Children’s office at 843-5472.
Carol Sing
Our special Sunday evening in December called CarolSing has quickly become a favorite evening here at FBC and this year it happens on December 13th. If you have something you think would be a good fit for our "warm ‘n’ fuzzy" Christmas evening of worship, please contact the First Worship Arts office. Family ensemble, poem, instrumental solo – just let us know and we’ll work in as many as we can!
Coats for Christmas
Coats are needed in all sizes from children through adults (men, women, boys and girls). Help someone in need feel warmth through your donation of good coats that you no longer need. So clean out your closets and gather any good, pre-cleaned coats you wish to donate. Donation boxes are available today in the 100 hallway, outside room 107, and in the 124 hallway, outside the Family Ministry office.
Christmas Care Packages
The FBC Military Ministry will be sending care packages to FBC military members deployed overseas for Christmas. There will be a collection box in the commons if you wish to donate items November 14-29. For a list of suggested items for a care package, please visit http://www.fbccabot.org/carepackagesuggestions
Church-Wide Events
Harvest Festival 2009 was a great success!! We had perfect weather!! We had 750 people who registered and probably more who didn’t!! GREAT BIG thanks goes out to all those who volunteered their time. I cannot express my gratitude enough for how much you helped. Thanks to David Sorrell for bringing puppets to the festival this year and to Lana Ballard for once again providing great food! Special thanks to Jeanette Wood for so much help and support. Thank you church family for another successful event!! ---Renee Cook. Congratulations to LeeAnn Giles who won the $50 Colton’s card in the volunteer door prize drawing. Congratulations to our Door Prize Winners: Rose Hall – ipod; Hunter Carmichael - Skate passes; Brad & Nathalia Burleson - Fun Factory passes; Clinton Flores - guessed the correct amount of candy corn - $50 Build a Bear card.
Women’s Ministry Event: Tea at Garvin Gardens in Hot Springs on December 15. The gardens will be transformed into a dazzling fairyland, lit with hundreds of twinkling lights, making this trip a feast for the eyes and a fun event for women of all ages. Tea time is 3-5 PM, ticket cost is $19.44 per person and that includes admission to the gardens. Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable. Departure from the church will be 1:00 PM, returning about 7:00 PM (transportation provided by FBC). This is a popular event and seating is limited. To ensure your reservation sign up in the commons beginning today.
JUST A REMINDER – In order to avoid conflicts, any and all events, meetings, etc planned for church facilities/properties need to be scheduled through the church office at least three (3) weeks prior to the event.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOX MINISTRY - Next Sunday is the day we bring our shoeboxes to church so they can be sent to Operation Christmas Child. Every shoebox filled with toys and helpful items for boys and girls is an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with the child who receives it.
ON MISSION IN GUATEMALA - Today is the last day to commit to participate in the January 9-16, 2010 mission trip to Guatemala. There is still room for volunteers but our missionaries need to know how large the team will be. Join others from Caroline Baptist Association in this mission project. The project is Operation GO which includes prayerwalking and home visits.
OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE FOR CABOT - Visit the Ministry Center today and find out how your family can be involved in this important ministry to needy families in our community.
DISCOVER FIRST IS NEXT SUNDAY - New members and anyone wanting more information about membership at First Baptist are encouraged to attend our next Discover First class. It will meet in the Pastor’s Office across the hall from the church library at 9:00 AM.
Mommy and Me…We will be going to Firefly Studio to paint our own pottery tomorrow at 9:15am. Detailed information can be found at the Preschool Check In Stations or on the web at www.fbccabot.org/mommyandme.
